Darkceter (/darkceter/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Weea Region of the Tetbur Commune.
The name Darkceter is derived from the Sylvin language, as Darkceter was founded by Fyênm Cadwaladr Lloyd, who was culturaly Sylvin.
Climate
Darkceter has a yearly average temperature of 28°C (82°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 32°C (89°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 25°C (77°F). Darkceter receives an average of 140 cm/y (55 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Darkceter covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 4368 m (14330 ft) above sea level.
Overview
Darkceter was founded durring the late 12th century in fall of the year 1055, by Fyênm Cadwaladr Lloyd. The establishment of Darkceter was somewhat plagued by a lack of willing colonists, leading to Fyênm Cadwaladr Lloyd electing to pay people to resettle in Darkceter.
Darkceter was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Darkceter is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.
Darkceter is buildings are located arround a single broad baked earthen mainstreet which forms a clockwise spiral to give the town a over all circular shape. The town is protected by a well-crafted cobblestone fence tall enough to provide adiquite cover for defenders to fire from, but no more than that. The town's frontieer-style defences have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.
Right off the bat Darkceter hits you in the face with its success. Everyone, even the peasants, are dressed in well made clothing. Every tool and implement you can see is finely made, and people will boast to you as obvious strangers of the wonders which can be found in their markets. More interestingly is a total lack of beggars, and plenty of new buildings are going up even as you speak. Somehow this town has come into quite a lot of wealth, and recently from the looks of things. The town is very clearly a joyfull place as well as wealthy. Music can be heard often, as well as laughter. The smell of food and drink permiates the air. You can’t help but smile.
Civic Infrastructure
Darkceter has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Darkceter.
Darkceter has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.
Darkceter has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.
Darkceter has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.
Darkceter has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Darkceter's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.
Darkceter has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.
Darkceter has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.
Darkceter is home to a University which provides higher education in a variety of fields, and also serves as a research institute for those same fields.
Cultural Notes
Darkceter's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by order, symmetry, formal design, grandiosity, and elaborate ornamentation. Architectural characteristics include balustrades, balconies, columns, cornices, pilasters, and triangular pediments. Stone exteriors are massive and grandiose in their symmetry; interiors are typically polished and lavishly decorated with sculptures, swags, medallions, flowers, and shields. Interiors will often have a grand stairway and opulent ballroom..
Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is skipped in Darkceter.
Darkceter's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves long periods of drunkenness to channel Invocation energies of tier 2 via proclamations.
Economy
The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. Darkceter has access to some sort of functioning ancient infrastructure, whether it's an array of wall-mounted arcane energy projectors, running water, moving roadways, community-wide climate control, or some other inherited luxury. This infrastructure may be the result of a still-functional Working, or it could be the product of some venerable occult engine that's still operational, or it may be the fruit of the labors of some specially-designed organism or Blighted populace.
